Don’t Expect Sympathy as a Litigant

How can you tell the difference between a dead lawyer in the middle of the road and a dead skunk in the middle of the road? There are skid marks in front of the skunk.  – Anonymous internet “lawyer joke”

Simply stated, the insurance defense industry and its lobbyists have done an excellent job prejudicing people against personal injury lawyers and their clients. Conservatives, such as the former radio personality, the late night with Paul Harvey, exhibited his bias against plaintiffs he believed were making outrageous claims and allegations by referring to them as “suers.”

Dear-Jeremy-work-and-care-006This negative reference to plaintiffs may only be the tip of the iceberg of the hostility that awaits you when you seek to exercise your legal rights against a negligent defendant. As a result, many people do not file suit, in fear of judgment of criticism. As previously noted, the added benefit to insurance companies from this form of propaganda is to poison the jury pool in civil actions.

You might find it in your best interest not to readily tell all of your friends and associates about your personal injury lawsuit – either when it’s in progress or after it is resolved. Keep in mind, defense investigators can talk to any friend, acquaintance, work associate or family member who agrees to speak with them.
